On Tuesday, September 6, 2016, Verna Scott Smith, quietly left on her well planned journey to her new home in glory, where she is already in fellowship with Jesus; and all of her family members and friends who were awaiting her arrival. We, her family members and friends, truly thank God for the privilege of sharing this life with her.
Born October 10, 1931 in Halifax County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Willie E. and Lutelia Mack Scott. Her formal education was received in the public schools of Halifax County, North Carolina. Verna was a retired nursing assistant with Graystone Park Psychiatric Hospital, Morris Plains, New Jersey.
Verna loved the Lord and fellowshipped with several churches in the area. She was a former member of the senior citizens group, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Badin, North Carolina and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star. She was well known for her collection of fine antiques and dolls. Verna enjoyed working word search puzzles, gardening, attending to her dogs and listening to various genres of music.
She was preceded in death by two sons: James Edward Bell and Alvin Jerome Bell.
To cherish her memory she leaves: a daughter, Delores Woodson, Badin, North Carolina; five brothers: L.W. (Florene) Scott, Lincoln, Delaware, Levi (Diane) Scott, Enfield, North Carolina, Darry (Melissa) Scott, Lincolnton, North Carolina and John Lloyd (Deborah) Scott, Alexander, Lousiana, Stanly Sanders, Roselle, New Jersey; three sisters: Loretta (Jeff) Richardson, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Helen (Milton) Williams, Sr., Newport News, Virginia and Dorothy Broaddus, Silver Springs, Maryland; nine grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
