Coyt Edswell Benson

October 1, 1957 ~ March 26, 2017 (age 59) 59 Years Old

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

– Isaiah 40:31

Coyt Edswell Benson’s journey began October 1, 1957 in Stanly County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Joe Lavon and Bessie Brown Benson. On the morning of Sunday, March 26, 2017, he transitioned and went to be with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is a most difficult time for our family; we give thanksgiving for the years we shared Coyt’s life.

He was educated in the Stanly County public schools where he attended North Stanly High School, New London, North Carolina. He was formerly employed as a crewman with the North Carolina Department of Transportation.

Coyt was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, New London, North Carolina, where he was a member of the Men’s Group. He was a self-taught artist. Several of his art pieces have been exhibited in galleries throughout the state. His artistic abilities were admired by many and he served as mentor for many neighborhood aspiring artists. Coyt was always willing to lend a helping hand to his fellowman and was the neighborhood “Uber” driver for those who enlisted his service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph E. Brown Benson.

A life filled with warmth, and loving memories will forever be treasured by his family and friends. Those who survive are: five brothers: Steven R. Hill, Albemarle, North Carolina, Rickey L. Benson, Charlotte, North Carolina, Alonzo (Ingie) Hill, Hampton, Virginia, Michael Benson and Calvin Benson, both of Badin, North Carolina; two sisters: Patricia P. Benson and Minister Francine (Marvin) Young, both of Badin, North Carolina; an aunt, Josephine (John) Howell, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
