Annie (Bennett) Rush

As we remember our dear mother, Annie Ruth Bennett Rush, we are reminded of her loving spirit, support and perseverance through her health challenges. Born December 25, 1948, in Chesterfield, South Carolina, Annie Ruth was the daughter of the late Ira and Celia Powe Bennett.

Annie Ruth attended the Stanly County public schools and graduated from high school in the Class of 1966. She enjoyed a career in law enforcement and was employed with Alcoa Badin Works, Badin, North Carolina as a security guard.

She was a faithful member of Barringer Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Norwood, North Carolina. When she married her husband, Reginald, she also enjoyed attending church services at Bennettsville A.M.E. Zion Church, Norwood, North Carolina. Annie Ruth was a diva and always enjoyed shopping and wearing beautiful clothes. She was never idle as she was an excellent seamstress, cook, and gardener. Her other favorite pastimes included: fishing catering, playing board games, but her greatest joy was spending time with family, especially her grandchildren who were the “apples of her eye”.

Annie and Reginald Eugene, Sr. were joined in Holy matrimony on May 22, 1971. Reginald passed June 11, 2010. They were the proud parents of Michelle, Micherri, Micandria, and Reginald, Jr.

Left to cherish her memory are three daughter: Michelle Rush, Durham North Carolina, Micherri Rush and Micandria (Akira) Darroux, Sr. both of Charlotte, North Carolina; a son, Reginald E. Rush, Jr., Norwood, North Carolina; four grandchildren: Xenobia McLendon, Azaviun McLendon, Zion Sesay, and Akira Darroux, Jr.; a brother, William (Jessie) Bennett, Troy, North Carolina; three sisters: Dorothy Bennett, Norwood, North Carolina, Celia Covington and Shirley Bennett both of Rockingham, North Carolina; a host of other relatives and dear friends.
