The earthly journey of Willie Ray Moore Jr., age 73, closed Friday, January 14, 2022, while a patient at Atrium Health-Cabarrus, Concord, North Carolina. Willie Ray Moore was born in Stanly County, North Carolina on February 7, 1948. His parents Will Moore and Elmonia Rennick Parker preceded him in death. Willie Ray, affectionately known as “Rabbit” by family and friends will be remembered for his great sense of humor and fond loving personality. When tomorrow begins and his presence is no longer with us, we will remember the years we shared, and give thanks for a life well-lived.
He received his formal education in the Stanly County public schools and graduated in the class of 1966 from the historic Kingville High School, Albemarle, North Carolina. For many years, he was employed with Yadkin Brick Company, New London, North Carolina.
In his leisure, Willie Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, and playing card games. He was an avid baseball enthusiast and in younger years he played the short-stop position with the Albemarle Sluggers baseball team.
In addition to his parents, Willie Ray was also preceded in death by his sons: Rodney Harris and Willie Wiggins; and his brother, Alonzo Moore.
Forever remembered, cherished, and loved, Willie Ray is survived by his daughter, Joy (Kenneth) Mack; son, Dedrick Cole; twenty-one grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; sister, Madeline Greene; special niece, Sonya (Willie) Merchant; special grandson, Durrell Davis; a host of other relatives and friends.
