Steven Devon Merriman

His courage, his smile, his grace are just a few qualities that encompassed the man, Steven Devon Merriman, who entered Heaven’s Gate, Monday, January 25, 2021. Born March 17, 1978 in Stanly County, North Carolina, Steven was the beloved son of Alice Tyson and Ernest Merriman. He was an unwavering source of love, strength, and support to his wife and young children. Steven loved his family and they adored him. When tomorrow begins, Steven will not be in our midst, but we will find comfort in knowing that he fought a good fight, finished his course, kept the faith, and now he rests in the Arms Our Lord and Savior.

Steven was educated in the Stanly County public schools and Mecklenburg County private school. He graduated from Victory Christian School, a parochial academy in Charlotte, North Carolina. He later attended Livingstone College, Salisbury, North Carolina where he pursued a criminal justice degree. Prior to declining health, Steven was a manager with Taco Bell, Salisbury.

A servant leader, Steven was a Christian who had an abiding faith and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. For many years he and his family have been devoted members of Lilly’s Chapel Church of God Founded by Jesus Christ, Salisbury. He was a member of the Deacon Board along with his wife.

In his leisure, Steven enjoyed cooking; but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and other family members. He was a gifted poet and historian. Steven also enjoyed writing compositions.

On August 30, 2008, Steven and Dorine Haywood, were joined in Holy Matrimony. They were the proud parents of four adorable children: Adiel, Neriah, Steven Jr., and Gylah.

Steven enriched our lives and always brightened our days. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Dorine H. Merriam; children: Adiel, Neriah, Steven Jr., and Gylah, all of Badin, North Carolina; mother, Alice Tyson, Badin, and father, Ernest Merriman, Mooresville, North Carolina; brother, Shawn (Clarice) Merriman, Gilbert, Arizona; mother and father-in-law, Georgia and Carl Haywood, Albemarle, North Carolina; other relatives and friends.
