Roosevelt Horne

Roosevelt “Chuck” Horne, age 83, was called from labor to reward, and entered Our Father’s Heavenly Home, Tuesday, October 6, 2020. “Chuck”, as he was affectionately known, was born in Stanly County, North Carolina on February 2, 1937. He was the son of the late Samuel and Hellen Moore Horne. “Chuck” was charismatic, well-spoken, and a great conversationalist. Gone from our presence, but never from the hearts of those who admired and loved him. He will be dearly missed.

He was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from West Badin High School, Albemarle, North Carolina. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina. “Chuck” served honorably in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement, he was an insurance agent with North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company, Durham.

 Never idle, always involved, “Chuck” worked tirelessly and enthusiastically in his church and community. A believer, he served as associate pastor of Faith, Hope and Charity Church, Albemarle; and was a member of the church’s Welcome Committee.

He was former president of the Stanly County NAACP, Albemarle. He was an advocate for positive change that would benefit the greater good. In his leisure, he enjoyed reading the Bible, traveling, maintaining his automobiles, and listening to jazz. He loved people, attending church programs, and taking photos. Photography was one of his favorite hobbies.

His parents; son, Reginald Horne; and his siblings: Fred Jr. Horne, Valonza Horne and Jessie Horne Spencer preceded him in death.

“Chuck” is survived by his daughters: Inge (Alonzo) Hill, Hampton, Virginia and Rosalyn Jefferson, Broadway, North Carolina; grandchildren: Desre Willingham, Sheena Medley, Ebony (Walter) Montgomery, Kyshaun Kendall, Joshua Jefferson, Anthony Jefferson, Brianna Jefferson, and Terrell White; brother, Reverend Dr. Charles A. Horne, Tacoma, Washington; god children: Navia McDonald, David George and Linda Booker; special friends: Johnnie Jordan, Lester Curry and Shirley Johnson; other relatives and many friends.
