It is with sadness, yet with the blessed hope of the day of the resurrection that we announce the passing of our beloved, Reverend Dr. Charles Edward Allen, who peacefully answered God’s call to eternal rest, Friday, July 2, 2021. Reverend Allen was born June 27, 1944 in Laurinburg, Scotland County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Charles H. Allen and Elizabeth Cousar Bennett. He was reared in Badin, North Carolina by his mother and stepfather, Quincy Bennett. Reverend Allen was a man of grace, dignity and above all, he was an individual who had a servant heart who tried to help someone as he passed along the way. With love and admiration, we remember him with a smile and love in our hearts.
He was educated in Stanly County, North Carolina public schools where he graduated from the historic West Badin High School, Badin, North Carolina. He received his undergraduate degree form Livingstone College, Salisbury, North Carolina. A thirst for knowledge and a disciple of God’s teaching, Reverend Allen received his Master and Doctor of Divinity degrees from Hood Theological Seminary, Salisbury.
Reverend Allen last pastored Saint Peter’s African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, New Bern, North Carolina and Kadesh African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Edenton, North Carolina. After retirement, he and his wife joined McDonald Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Badin. There he was a member of the Trustee Board and served as a security advisor. He was always supportive and availed himself to assist wherever there was a need at McDonald Chapel.
He was a renaissance man who was centered in the church and community. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School classes and working with the youth. He was the scout master of Scoutmaster of Badin Troop 131 - the second African American Troop in the Central NC Council history to produce Eagle Scouts. He held membership in the following organizations and corporations: charter member of Badin-Harristown Optimist Club, member of the Albemarle Optimist Club, Aluminum Company of America’s Twenty-Five Year Club at the Badin location, a member of the Stanly Memorial Hospital Advisory Board, co-chair of the Stanly County Schools Advisory Council, Incorporator and Director of Bank of Stanly and Uwharrie Capital Corporation, Albemarle. In his leisure, he found time to play a great game of golf.
His parents and sons: William H. Allen, Charles E. Allen, II, and Charles Q. Allen preceded him in death.
Reverend Allen and Sandra Murchison Allen celebrated 57 years of marriage on June 21, 2021.They were married, resided, and reared their children in the Badin.
He enriched our lives, brightened our days, and will forever remain in the hearts of his wife, Sandra M. Allen, New London, North Carolina; only daughter, Danielle (Joel) Allen-Lynch, Atlanta, Georgia; sons: Charles E. (Tameja) Allen III, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Donald C. Allen, New London; grandchildren: Christopher, Caiden, Carson, Nadia, Savannah, Nevaeh, and Willow; sisters: Sondra Allen-Hamilton, St. Albans, New York, Judy (Gregory) Haywood, Albemarle, Cynthia Allen, New York, and his cousin Cheryl Moore, Charlotte, who was like a sister; a very special aunt and uncle, Reverend and Mrs. Zack Rogers; brother-in-law, Marcel Murchison, New London, sister-in-law Alecia Thomas; many other relatives and friends.
