Obituary

In sweet peace, our beloved, Pinkey Jordan Rushing, entered eternal rest, Sunday, March 13, 2022. Pinkey was born December 30, 1932, in Chester, South Carolina to the parentage of Maniford “Mance” and Hattie Brown Jordan. “Ms. Pinkey” as she was affectionately known, was a royal jewel who epitomized grace and dignity. A tender mother and a faithful friend were attributes that made “Ms. Pinkey” so endearing. She will forever be remembered for her love, sweet spirit, and kindness she showed for her family and friends.

She was educated in the Fairfield County, South Carolina public schools; and was employed in the textile industry.

“Ms. Pinkey” was a devoted and faithful member of Saints Delight Church, Albemarle, North Carolina. Prior to declining health, she was a member of the Pastor’s Aide and Missionary Auxiliaries. She was also a devout Sunday School participant and Prayer service warrior. “Ms. Pinkey” was a former member of the Morning Star Chapter #570, Order of the Eastern Star (PHA), New London, North Carolina.

Never idle, in her leisure, “Ms. Pinkey” enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, reading, and singing. Family centered and devoted, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was not only kind to her family, but always found time to help her neighbors and friends.

She was married to and preceded in death by: Walter Wade Jackson, Thomas Dorsey and Robert Rushing. “Ms. Pinkey” was also preceded in death by her daughter, Loretta Jackson; son, Walter Jackson Jr.; great-great grandson, Kingston Jo-ell Mann; siblings: Sarah Lightner, Corrine Johnson, Floree Jordan, Lucille Johnson, Eliza Jordan, Johnnie Mae Hayman, Jennie Jordan, James Jordan, and Olin Jordan.

“Ms. Pinkey”, an unforgettable lady, memory will be cherished with love and affection by her daughters: Rosa Lee Strong, Margaret J. Crawley, both of Baltimore, Maryland, Barbara (James) Hughes, Chester, South Carolina, Mildred Jackson (Salifou Na-Allah) Jamestown, North Carolina, Joyce Rush, Wadesboro, North Carolina and Jacqueline Dorsey, Winston Salem, North Carolina; sons: James Jackson, Badin, North Carolina and Maurice Dorsey, Wilmington, North Carolina; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sister-in-law, Katie Ruth Jordan, Baltimore; special friends: Katie Dunlap and Mary Pergee; a host of other relatives and countless friends.

“Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellent them all. Favor is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised”.   -Proverbs 31: 28-30
