Philmore Junior Lilly, age 80, journey in life began September 13, 1941, in Montgomery County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late William Edgar and Nannie Pemberton Lilly. On Monday, November 22, 2021, while a patient at Atrium Health, Albemarle, North Carolina, Philmore gained his wings and entered Heaven’s Gate. There to welcome him home were his parents and siblings: Odell, Theodore, Chester, Benjamin, Paul, Bernice, Shirley, and Pauline. We can only imagine what a joyous time they had when the Lilly family was united again. We are saddened by Philmore’s loss, but we find comfort in knowing he has made it home and is in God’s Care.
He attended the Stanly County public schools and graduated from the historic Kingville High School, Albemarle. Prior to retirement, he was employed as a truck driver with Waste Management.
Philmore will be remembered for his caring and compassionate demeanor. He was kind and had a generous heart. For many years he and his family were members of Saints Delight Church before Philmore affiliated with the Church of God, Albemarle. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. In his pastime, he loved to fish, hunt, play card games, and watch his favorite New York Yankees, Washington Football Team (formerly the Washington Redskins), and the Carolina Panthers. He was an avid sports enthusiast.
Left to cherish treasured memories are his daughters: Geraldine (Mark) Johnson and Tamela (Fred) Watson; sons: Orlando (Angelica) Lilly, Phillip (Toni) Lilly, Timmy Christian, Philmore Junior Horton, Allen Sheffield Sellers and Ernest Sellars; 21 grandchildren and great grandchildren; devoted nephew, Kenneth Lilly; special nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Philmore’s earthly journey has ended, but his spirit and memory will live in our hearts. It is not goodbye; it is, we will see you again when God calls us home.
