Philetta Medley

A woman of dignity and grace, our beloved, Philetta J. Medley, transitioned to eternal rest, Wednesday, December 8, 2021, while a patient at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center, Albemarle, North Carolina. She was born August 27, 1948, in Stanly County, North Carolina; and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Cornelia Walker Medley. Philetta enriched our lives and brightened our days. She will be remembered for her humanity in that she always tried to lend a helping hand to others who needed her assistance. When tomorrow begins and she is no longer physically among us, we will find comfort in knowing that she is in the care of Our Lord and Savior.

She was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated in the class of 1966 from West Badin High School, Badin, North Carolina. While in high school, she was an outstanding student and was inducted into the prestigious Crown and Sceptre Honor Society.

Philetta was a believer and began her Christian journey at an early at the family’s home church, First Baptist Church, Badin. When she moved to New Jersey, she was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, Metuchen, New Jersey. Never idle, Philetta enjoyed reading, writing poetry, teaching children how to read, and watching old movies and westerns on television.

Her parents; sister, Betty Dixon; and brothers: Darlin, George, and Robert Wayne preceded her in death.

Cherished and fond memories will forever be treasured by her sisters: Julia Moore, Badin, Beverly (Richard) Spencer, Hampton, Virginia, Carolyn Dixon Agyapong, Tallahassee, Florida, Georgette (Mike) Edgerton, and Darlene Sturdivant, both of Albemarle; brothers:  John (Minnie) Medley, New London, North Carolina, Wilbur Medley, Wadesboro, North Carolina, William (Pat) Medley, Plainfield, New Jersey, and Ronnie Medley, Badin; sisters-in-law: Cora Medley, Metuchen, New Jersey and Margreta Medley, Woodbridge, Virginia; special niece who she helped to rear, Janae (Dexter) Moore Hinson, Badin; God daughters: Darlena Medley and LaToya Medley, both of Metuchen; God son, Sean Medley, Metuchen; special cousin, Melvin Walker, Detroit, Michigan; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
