Myra Drye Obituary

Myra Isabelle “Jackie” Session Drye was born March 18, 1950, in Albemarle, North Carolina. “Jackie”, as she was lovingly known, was the eldest daughter of William Victor Session and Willie Belle Cross Session. She transitioned to eternal rest Saturday, June 18, 2022, while a patient at Atrium Health-Stanly, surrounded by devoted family members.  We have been blessed and give thanks to Our Lord and Savior for allowing us to share Myra’s life for so many years. Her memory will always remain in our hearts.

Educated in the Stanly County public schools, Myra graduated in the class of 1969 from Albemarle Senior High School, Albemarle. She furthered her pursuit of higher education at Stanly Technical College, Albemarle, School of Cosmetology, where she received her cosmetology certification. Prior to declining health on December 29, 2021, she was employed  with Granite Knitwear Company, Granite Quarry, North Carolina.

Myra was reared in a Christian home, and at an early age she joined her family as a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Albemarle. After marriage, she joined First Baptist Church, New London, North Carolina where her husband was a member. At First Baptist, Myra was a member of the church choir, Missionary and Usher Boards.  She was a faithful member for over forty years until her declining health limited her active participation.

An avid reader, Myra studied the Bible and especially enjoyed reading The Book of Psalm. She was quiet and meek but generosity, compassion, and kindness were received  by neighbors and friends, with whom she shared food and other supplies that were distributed by local agencies. She was also well-read in holistic remedies and was able to help others with health concerns, especially in the areas of pressure points that caused discomfort.

On July 12, 1969, Myra married Eddie Drye. They celebrated forty-four years of marriage until his death on October 21, 2013. Myra was a loving, devoted mother and grandmother.

Day has dawn and Myra has joined her parents; husband; daughter, Dina Davette Drye, who died December 9, 2021; brother, Harry Steven Allen; maternal grandparents, Adam David and Rennie Davis Cross; and maternal great grandmother, Emmaline Cole (freed slave), in a place of tranquility and beauty.

Family and friends who will forever remember and treasure Myra’s memory are: son, Damian “Danny” Dewayne Drye; granddaughter, Jordann Drye; stepfather, Harry Liles; sisters: Emily Session Turner, Sarah (Alfonza) Dean, and Carolyn (Lenard) Bennett; brothers: Joel Bowman and Bernard Staton; special cousin reared as a brother, Victor Cross; special nephew and nieces: Rodney Turner Jr., Shannon Turner, and Davene Turner Barton;  special family friend, Fernando Ponds; a host of other relatives and friends.
