Michael Gainey Obituary

Michael Ray Gainey was born September 11, 1954 in Stanly County, North Carolina. Michael was the son of Lydia Gaddy Gainey and the late Joshua Gainey. He has finished his journey on earth and now rests in the Arms of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It breaks our hearts to lose Michael; he will be missed dearly, but we know that we will see him again in that great getting’ up morning.

He graduated from North Stanly High School, New London, North Carolina where he was an outstanding varsity basketball player. He continued his education at Wingate University, Wingate, North Carolina. In 1973, Michael enlisted in the United States Marines and later transferred to the United States Army. He served in the 101st Airborne Division where he was honorably discharged.

Michael was a true believer and accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, New London. Michael was adventurous and well-traveled. He resided in Sacramento, California from 2009, returning to his native North Carolina in 2017. His grandchildren were his proud and joy. He adored them and enjoyed actively participating in their lives. Another passion was his love for the sport of basketball. As fore-mentioned he was a basketball star in high school. Watching the basketball games on television was a favorite pastime.

His memory will live in the hearts of his daughters: Latorya Gainey, New London, North Carolina, Keshunda Gainey, Tinesa Hammond, Tihesa Burns all of Albemarle, North Carolina; son, Mykel Frazier, Charlotte, North Carolina; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; mother, Lydia G. Gainey, New London, North Carolina; sister, Lynette Gainey, Reston, Virginia; special sister, Elder Josenia Scott, Charlotte, North Carolina; special little brother, Isaac Watson, Palm Beach, Florida; a host of other relatives and friends.
