Melvin Stanback, known to many as "Mel Hawk," left this earthly plane to serve the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. In the Bible, the number (7) represents completion and an idea of resting. His soul is now at rest. He was 80 years old.
Mel was born on April 13, 1943 to Arthur and Anna Stanback. He was educated in the Richmond County school system. He then relocated to Virginia where he spent the majority of his early years. He returned to North Carolina in 1995 where he was employed as a truck driver until his health began to fail.
Melvin lived a full and happy life. He was an avid sportsman. He loved WWE and he was a huge NBA fan. He enjoyed drawing and traveling, but what brought him the most joy was his favorite hobby of buying and selling cars.
He made an impact on so many people. He was strong willed and independent. His strength undoubtedly carried him through life's challenges. Anyone that truly knew him knew that he had a big heart.
In addition to his parents, Mel was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, (1) son, (1) daughter, (8) brothers, and (4) sisters.
He is survived by his daughters, Daphne Pemberton, of Asheboro, NC; Kosha Medley John (Paul) of Maryland, and Kay Armstrong; son, Ray Armstrong of Troy, NC, sisters: Eva Dykes of Mt. Gilead, NC, and Sandra Barnaby of Brooklyn, NY; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, a very special friend, Viane "Sis" Medley, as well as numerous family members and friends. Melvin will be greatly missed. We hate that you are gone, but we are happy that you are home free and painless.
Until we meet again...
