Martha Ann (Linton) LeGrand

Mrs. Martha LeGrand, 76, was received in Heaven by Our Lord and Savior on February 19, 2025, in Salisbury, NC. She was born on July 13, 1948, in Winston-Salem, NC, to Elmo Linton and Dorothy Linton.

Educated in the public schools of Forsyth County, Martha graduated from Carver High School in the Class of 1966. She furthered her education and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Winston-Salem State University in 1970. She was an active member of Rho Chapter, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority during her time at WSSU and later joined the Psi Chi Chapter of the National Nursing Sorority in Salisbury, NC.

Martha dedicated 42 years of her life to nursing, with her career culminating as a Charge Nurse at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salisbury, NC. She also shared her knowledge, care, and passion for healthcare as an instructor at Rowan Technical College, where she taught the CNA course for many years.

Johnny and Martha LeGrand were a dedicated couple that celebrated over 39 years of marriage. Martha affectionately referred to her husband as "Yog" and was a pillar for his life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnny; father, Elmo Linton; mother, Dorothy Linton; and sisters: Barbara Linton and Gretta Jowers.

Martha was a devoted member of both McDonald AME Zion Church Badin, NC and Soldier Memorial AME Zion Church Salisbury, NC for many years.Martha was a warming spirit who was passionate about helping others, dedicating her life to mission work and offering care and compassion to people of all walks of life. If you were blessed to encounter Martha, you knew she was a child of God, and was sent here to be the caregiver that she was. She was a missionary who loved traveling with her family and was fortunate to visit many destinations around the world. Her life was defined by service to others, whether through her nursing career or her missionary work.

Martha is survived in loving memory by her daughter, Gretta LeGrand of Salisbury; sons: Derrick Davis Sr. and Makaius Funderburk; sisters: Rosetta Glover and Maria Perkins; brothers: Elmo Linton Jr. and John Jowers. She was supported in life by ten grandchildren: Jaden, Aaliyah, Kamryn, Jason, Isaiah, Ionna, Timothy, Tiffany, Asia, and Derrick Jr. She is also survived by a host of family to include: in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.

Martha’s legacy of love, service, and compassion will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
