Mable (White) Dathan

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day. Not to me only, but unto all of them also that love His appearing”.    2 Timothy 4:6-8

Mable White Dathan was born February 2, 1939, to Cephus Sr. and Queen Esther Edmonds White in Washington, DC. She was the fourth of twelve children.

She was educated in the Washington, DC public schools. Mable worked numerous professions but found her passion in food service and presentation. She retired from the Veterans Administration after many years of dedicated service. Mable was known for her favorite dishes and special desserts, especially her lemon pound cake, and her own Icebox Cake.

Mable was a devoted mother to her three sons: Bobby (Shirley) White, Stefan White and Deon (Lynette) White. After her retirement and relocation to North Carolina, she reared her youngest grandson, William. He was the love of her life.

Her parents, Cephus and Queen Esther; and brother, Thurman White Sr. preceded her in death.

Those who will remember and cherish Mable’s memory are, her sons; daughters-in-law; grandchildren; great grandchildren; ten brothers and sisters: Meretha Taylor, Rosanna York, Andrew Sr.(Marvel), Cephus Jr., Mary Maxine Ouzts, Leon, Keidth (Lillie), Vernon, William (Judith), and Norris; a host of other relatives and friends.
