Lynn Covington Obituary

 

Lynn Covington, age 65, entered eternal rest Wednesday, July 22, 2020 while a patient at Novant Health, Salisbury, North Carolina. Lynn, fondly known as “Uncle Toonk” by his family, was born March 15, 1955 in Wingate, North Carolina and was the son of the late George June and Mary K. Sturdivant Covington. We give thanks for Lynn’s life. We are comforted in knowing that he fought a gallant fight, and now rests in the Arms of Our Lord and Savior.

He graduated in the Class of 1974 from West Stanly High School, Red Cross, North Carolina. Prior to retirement, he was employed with Universal Forest Company, Salisbury, North Carolina.

Lynn was a former member of Galilee Baptist Church, Oakboro, North Carolina. He had a kind and compassionate demeanor. Lynn enjoyed automotive maintenance, singing, drawing, and spending time with his family. Other sources of enjoyment included: mentoring and encouraging the neighborhood youth, watching wrestling and western television programs.

His parents and brothers: John Covington and Waddell Covington preceded him in death.

He was married to Rhonda Owens Covington. They shared forty-three years of marriage.

Lynn’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of family and friends. Survivors are:  his wife, Rhonda O. Covington, New London, North Carolina; son, Lynn Anthony Covington Jr. (Tanika McDaniels), Charlotte, North Carolina; daughters: LaToya Owens (Eric Campbell), Independence, Missouri, LaCoya (Melvin) McKay Sr., Charlotte, and Minnie Covington (Quincey Washington), Decatur, Georgia; grandchildren: Kahlil Covington, Nylah Washington, Kaylah Washington, Kiylah Washington, Laylah Washington, Melvin McKay Jr., and Kaden Barbee; sisters: Minnie Broadway, Albemarle, North Carolina, Gail (Jeremiah) Owens, Concord, North Carolina and Wanda Turner, Albemarle; brothers: Michael (Tonya) Covington and Jerry Covington, both of Albemarle; sisters-in-law: Eunice Covington and Vanessa Covington; brother-in-law, Mickey Owens; very special nieces and nephews: LeKeya Covington, Chandra (Mark) Harrison, Kenian (Randi) Covington,  Glashay Covington, and Ashley Davis; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives; and best friend, Chris Edwards.
