Ladonna Chambers Obituary

After months of health challenges, LaDonna Denise Craig Chambers, passed away while she was a patient at Carolina Medical Center in Charlotte early Thursday Morning, 2019. LaDonna was lovingly known as “Cookie.” She was born October 1, 1954, in Albemarle, North Carolina. She was reared by her two loving parents, Thelma, and Slay Craig, Jr., and with her nine brothers and sisters (Kathleen, Garfield, UShaka/James, Marian, Rickey, Harry, Carolyn, Robert, and Carl Jr.). Also, an adopted. sister, Jacqueline Freeman-Watkins.

Growing up in a close knit family, Cookie learned early the values of a family. She was a gregarious and loving spirit and allowed her light to shine through the many lives she touched along her path. She was dearly loved not only by her family but by her many friends and others she touched along the way. Because “Cookie” left such a strong indelible impression on those she knew, she will be tremendously missed.

LaDonna was educated in the Stanly County Public School System. Before, desegregation, LaDonna attended the historic Kingville School. After the public school integration (1968); she attended and graduated from Albemarle Senior High with the class of 1972. After High School, LaDonna was motivated to broaden her life’s experiences, she pursued a degree at Stanly Community College where she studied Child Care Development; and later attended Cosmetology School in North Ridge, California. As a business person, she owned and operated her own hair solan. LaDonna also worked as a seamstress with Dawson Sewing Mill.

LaDonna’s early childhood development kept her grounded in her values and a believer in God. She was a faithful and devoted member of Saints Delight Church, Albemarle, where she served as president of the Usher Board for many years. “Cookie” personality was warm and inviting; her smile was so affectionate, she could light up a room and warm your heart once she was in your presence. She was a caregiver for the community and was always willing to lend assistance where needed. In her leisure, she enjoyed shopping and spoiling her grandchildren.

LaDonna and William Chambers have been married for forty years; and were loving and supportive parents to their sons: Pedro and William. Also, her love provided a sanctuary in caring for many nieces and nephews and grandchildren.

“Cookie’s” memory, grace, and goodness will forever remain in the hearts of her husband, William Chambers, Albemarle; sons: Pedro (Stacey) Chambers and William Chambers, both of Albemarle; grandchildren: Pedro Chambers, Jadan Chambers, Zaliyah Holt, Anthony Chambers, Rashun Chambers, and Gabrielle Chambers; God-sons: Fernando Ponds and Johnathan Singh; sisters and brothers: Barbara K. Haynes, Garfield (Patricia) Craig, U-Shaka/James (Necosha) Craig, Marian (Gerry) D’Angelo, Rickey Craig, Harry (Montesse) Craig, Carolyn (David) Coleman, Robert (Devora) Craig, and Carl Jr. Craig; aunts and uncle: Ida Mae Kendall, Ollie Catherine Clark and Philip (Sarah) Clark; many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends.

LaDonna, as you make your transition, may God and the Ancestors Greet you with open arms and say a job well done
