Kimberly Thomas Obituary

Kimberly Charlesa Thomas made her final transition the morning of May 2, 2025, at age 49.

She was born January 13, 1976, in Wilmington, North Carolina; and was adopted by Charles Thomas Sr., and Barbara Thomas. Kimberly graduated from Albemarle Senior High School, Albemarle, North Carolina; and served honorably in the United States Army.

Kim had an enormous heart. She was generous, loyal, and brave to many. Clever, full of wisdom, insightful… all  qualities Kim gained through  her life experiences. She loved music and most people knew her from playing the keyboard and drums in church. One of the sweetest and cherished memories as a child was when her mother took her to her brother’s music rehearsal for an upcoming recital. Kim told her mother that she wanted to play the piano in the recital. Her Mom thought about how Chuck would feel, after all, he had been practicing and rehearsing for the recital that would culminate in two weeks. Kim was persistent, so her Mother arranged with the instructor for Kim to play the piano in the recital. Kim learned her song and played it with all her heart.  To her Mother’s surprise, Kim “Aced”  her performance. “Don’t tell anyone, but she played it better than Chuck”.

Kim loved her dogs. Her first dog, C-4, preceded her in death; and  Zyga, who is her service dog, she affectionately called, “her boy”.

In her heavenly home, Kim has joined her brother, Charles “Chucky” Thomas Jr.; her grandparents; her uncle, Bobby Bridgers Jr.; and so many other relatives in a place of beauty and tranquility.

Although Kim is gone, her light will forever shine in the hearts of those who loved her dearly. She is survived by her service dog, Zyga (“her boy”); mother, Barbara Thomas, Kittrell, NC; father, Charles Thomas Sr. (Portia), Rock Hill, SC; sister-in-law, Amy Parker-Thomas, Charlotte, NC; adopted sister, Teresa Hearne (Ronnie), Spencer, NC; niece, Ashlen Thomas, Concord, NC; nephew, Charles Thomas III, Charlotte, NC; great niece, Lydia Thomas, Concord, NC; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; and her best friend of many years, Gaynell Ridenhour.

Kim’s departure is a profound shock and has deeply touched her family and all who loved her.
