“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
- Isaiah 40:31
Joseph Fred Allen, affectionately known as “Joe”, son of the late Ben and Mannie Thomas Allen was born November 4, 1935 in Stanly County, North Carolina. He departed his earthly life Wednesday, December 6, 2017 while a patient at Cabarrus Healthcare System-Northeast, Concord, North Carolina. God saw the road getting rough and harder to climb, so in his infinite wisdom, called his son home from a life of labor to reward. His family and friends give thanks to the Almighty Savior for allowing us to share Joe’s life.
He was educated in the public schools in Stanly County and graduated from the historic Kingville High School – Class of 1953, Albemarle, North Carolina. After graduation, Joe served his country honorably in the United States Army. He was employed and retired from the United States Postal Service, New Haven, Connecticut, where he was a former president of the local postal union. Never idle and always involved, Joe was a devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, New Haven. While at Emmanuel, he was a member of the Kitchen Staff, Men’s Chorus and served on other church auxiliaries that needed member support.
When Joe and his wife, Delsia, relocated to Albemarle, they attended Saints Delight Church, where they enjoyed worship services; and Joe taught Sunday school classes. In his leisure, Joe was former president of the Social Image Club, a devout Carolina Panthers football fan and spent countless hours tending to his beautiful flower gardens and lawn.
Family members that preceded him in death, in addition to his parents, were his siblings: Mary E. Allen, John Lee Allen and David J. Allen.
Joe and Delsia Hearne Allen were joined in Holy Matrimony for over sixty years.
A legacy of love, devotion and fond memories are left with: a devoted wife, Delsia H. Allen; two sisters: Margaret Allen (William) Cato and Lula Allen Poston, all of Albemarle, North Carolina; other relatives and many friends.
