Johnnie William Owens, Sr.

Johnnie William Owens, Sr., age 54, gave up time for Eternity, Monday, October 1, 2018. He was born August 20, 1964 in Stanly County, North Carolina, and was the son of Wilma Griffin Owens and the late Robert Fred Owens, Sr. It is difficult to say good-bye to our beloved Johnnie, but we are so very thankful the years we shared his life.

He attended the public schools of Stanly County and graduated from North Stanly High School, New London, North Carolina-Class of 1982. Johnnie furthered his education at Stanly Community College where he majored in Business. For many years he was employed with Michelin Tire Company where he was a fork lift operator and tire builder.

Johnnie was a member of First Baptist Church, New London. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, camping, cooking and watching the wrestling network channel. He also was an avid University of North Carolina Tar Heels fan.

He was preceded in death by his father and his brother, Robert Fred Owens, Jr.

A loving family who will forever treasure Johnnie’s memory are: a son, Johnnie W. Owens, Jr., mother, Wilma G. Owens, and brother, Mickey M. Owens, all of New London; sisters: Eunice Covington, Albemarle, North Carolina and Rhonda (Lynn) Covington, New London; aunts: Ruby Lilly, Teresa (Sam) Miller and Helen Trayvick; uncles: Melvin (Carolyn) Griffin and Curtis Burns;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
