Heaven’s Gate opened for James Lee Washington, age 77, Tuesday, May 5, 2020, while a patient at Atrium Health-Stanly, Albemarle, North Carolina. He was born October 8, 1942 in Sylvester, Georgia and was the son of the late Bennie L. Sr. and Lovie Polite Washington. Our family will remember with fondness James’ reserved demeanor and love for family. His legacy of love and devotion for his family and fellowman will remain in our hearts until we meet again.
He was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from the historic West Badin High School, Badin, North Carolina. James was employed with J and B Home Health and retired from Stanly Memorial Hospital, Albemarle.
A dedicated and true believer, James was a member of the Church of the Living God, Badin. There he served faithfully as assistant to the Pastor and Bishop. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing and watching his favorite basketball team, the Charlotte Hornets. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed the sport immensely.
James and his wife, Barbara Hubbard Washington, were married for over fifty years. She preceded him in death on March 14, 2013.
We are truly blessed to have shared a wonderful life for so many years. James will be remembered by his sons: James (Sabrina) Washington, Valdosta, Georgia and Roy C. Washington, Badin; daughter, Angelia B. Washington, Dallas, Texas; grandchildren: James J. Washington II, Noble Washington, Pure Washington, Journee Anthony and Universal Washington; brother, Bishop Roy Lee (Joretha) Washington, Badin; sister, Vera Washington McLendon, Badin; cousin/brother, Bishop Franklin Washington Sr.; in-laws: Margaret H. Johnson, Edith H. Geter, Ernest Hubbard, Marilyn Washington and Daisy Watkins Washington; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
