James Gardner

When tomorrow begins, our beloved James Gardner’s presence will not be amongst us. We will remember James with love and thanksgiving in our hearts. He was born July 21, 1950 in Gaston County, North Carolina and was the son of the late John and Odessa Lewis Gardner. We are forever appreciative for the years we shared his life. Our memories bring some comfort as we mourn his loss.

James was educated in the public schools of Gaston County. Prior to his retirement, he was employed for many years with the City of Gastonia, Water and Sewer Department, Gastonia.

He was a modest man of humble beginnings. James was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

On November 15, 2020, James was welcomed to his Eternal home by his parents, John and Odessa Gardner, and his sister, Johnnie Mae Gardner McCorkle.

James was formerly married to Delois Gramling Watkins.

Survivors who will cherish James’ memory are his sons: James Watkins, New London, North Carolina and Devin Gardner, Shelby, North Carolina; daughters: Renea (Barry) Williams-Peguese, Norwood, North Carolina, Lola (James) Gardner-Greene, and Chante’(Bryant) Watkins-Harris, both of New London; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Charles Gardner, Mount Holly, North Carolina; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

God’s Plans

We are not always ready

For the things that God has planned,

They are sometimes unexpected

And we do not understand.

But always there is a purpose

Which as yet we may not see,

It is locked away from vision

But God’s love provides the key.
