In sweet peace, Jackie Lavon Smith, age 65, transitioned into eternal rest while a patient at Atrium Health-Stanly, Albemarle, North Carolina, Thursday, July 8, 2021.He was born August 8, 1955 in Stanly County, North Carolina; and was the son of the late Verlene Marie Gibson Smith. Jackie’s memory, always precious in our hearts, will be remembered for his tender heart and generous spirit.
Educated in the Stanly County public schools, Jackie graduated in the class of 1974 from North Stanly High School, New London, North Carolina. Prior to declining health, he was employed with Wiscasset Mills, Albemarle.
He was a former member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Badin, North Carolina. Hobbies that were dear to Jackie included: fishing, shooting a game of pool, and listening to Rhythm and Blues music.
Jackie is now in God’s Care and has joined his mother, Verlene Smith; maternal grandmother, Berta McRae; brother, Johnny Leon Gibson; and cousin, Reverend Regeland “Jerry” Smith, who was like a brother, in a place where the sun always shines, and the woes of the world are no more.
In love, Jackie will be remembered fondly by his devoted sister, Judy (Gregory)Haywood, Badin, North Carolina; brother, Joe David Smith, Albemarle; aunt, June Esther Lilly, New York; nieces: Jennifer Smith, New London; Dionne (Jamarr) Parker, and Brittany Haywood, both of Albemarle; nephews: Johnny L. (Kristin) Smith, Kernersville, North Carolina, Philip Bennett, Misenheimer, North Carolina and Gregory Haywood Jr., Charlotte, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Barbara Jean Gibson, New London; a host of other relatives and friends.
