Our beloved, Herman Angelous McLendon, entered Heaven’s gate, Friday, April 23, 2021, while a patient at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis, Indiana. Born March 6, 1958, in Stanly County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late James Herman and Geneva Little McLendon. Herman enriched our lives and brightened our days. We feel such a profound loss because he was a profound blessing to us all. His legacy lives in our hearts through shared stories, experiences, and memories.
Herman received his formal education in the Stanly County public schools and graduated in the class of 1977 from North Stanly High School, New London, North Carolina. After graduation, he served honorably in the United States Army during the Afghanistan Conflict. Prior to declining health, he was employed for many years with Alcoa Aluminum Company in Badin, North Carolina and Maryville, Tennessee.
A man of faith, Herman and his family enjoyed membership and many spirited services at High Praises Church, Maryville, Tennessee.
In his leisure, he played chess, enjoyed fishing, and making sure his lawn was impeccably manicured. He was an avid sports enthusiast. His favorite NBA team was the Los Angeles Lakers, and his favorite NFL team was the Baltimore Ravens. Playoff games were great sources of enjoyment. However, his greatest joy was spending time with family and many friends.
Herman was loved. He never met a stranger and always went the extra mile to help his fellowman. He has finished his course and has joined his parents, James and Geneva, and a loving aunt, Edith Smith, in a place of tranquility and peace.
He and Debbie Tyson McLendon were happily married for over 25 years.
The sun has set on the life of Herman A. McLendon, who was brave, loving, and courageous. He fought gallantly through his illness. He has gone from home, but not from the hearts of a loving and devoted wife, Debbie T.
