Hattie Gaston

In sweet and blessed peace, our beloved Elder Hattie Carpenter Gaston entered eternal rest on June 1, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by the love of her family. While our hearts are saddened by her departure, we rejoice in the assurance that she has received her heavenly reward and now rests safely in the arms of Our Savior.

Elder Hattie was born on May 2, 1951, in Stanly County, North Carolina, to the late Julius Carpenter and Lucille McRae Carpenter. Throughout her life, she exemplified faith, strength, perseverance, and unwavering devotion to God. She will be remembered with everlasting love for her gentle spirit, compassionate heart, and the courageous determination she displayed throughout life’s challenges.

She received her education in the Stanly County Public School System and attended North Stanly High School in New London, North Carolina. Elder Hattie was employed for many years in the textile industry, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.

A true prayer warrior, Elder Hattie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and faithfully lived a life devoted to serving Him. Ordained into the ministry in 1989 and ordained as an Elder in 2021. She never missed an opportunity to witness to others and share the goodness, grace, and mercy of God.

Elder Hattie was a devoted member of New Hope Deliverance Ministries in New London. There, she faithfully served in the Intercessory Ministry, was a former member of the Usher Board, and willingly assisted wherever her service was needed. Elder Hattie was also a previous member of Transfiguration Ministries in Gastonia.  She found great joy in studying God’s Word and reading her Bible daily.

Beyond her ministry, Elder Hattie treasured her family. She especially cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren, who brought joy to her life. Her love, wisdom, and nurturing spirit will forever remain a guiding light for those she leaves behind.

Elder Hattie was preceded in death by her beloved parents; husband, William Gaston; her cherished sons: Antonio Wiggins and Larry Wiggins; brothers: Rayvon Carpenter and Alvin Carpenter who welcomed her into her eternal home.

She was formerly married to Donell Wiggins and they were parents to: Antonio, Larry, and Tosha.

Though she has departed from our sight, her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving daughter, Tosha Wiggins; beloved grandchildren: Laketra Wiggins-Jones, Tysean Wiggins-Jones, and Tsion Steele; adopted daughter, Sidena Verbal;  sister, Marianne (Larry) Benson;  brothers: Bishop Ronald (First Lady Harriette) Carpenter and Jayvan (Helen) Carpenter;  cousins, reared as sisters: Joanne (Gary) Owens and Joyce Bennett;  sister-in-law, Michelle Carpenter; aunt, Fayenetta Allgood; spiritual daughter, Detrica Watkins; spiritual sons and daughters; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, church family, and dear friends.
