Elizabeth Edwards Obituary

The earthly life of Mrs. Elizabeth “Liz” Adams Edwards ended on Friday, March 27, 2026, while a patient at Tucker Inpatient Unit, Hospice of Cabarrus County, Kannapolis, North Carolina. Liz, as she was affectionally known, was born November 6, 1953, in LaGrange, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Clarence and Zula Darmon Adams.

Liz attended the public schools of LaGrange and graduated from high school in 1971. She received her licensed practical nursing degree and was employed with Grady Memorial Hospital in the surgical department.

After meeting the love of her life, Gary Edwards, they married and were blessed with a daughter, LaTasha. Later, Liz and Gary relocated to Albemarle, North Carolina.

Her love for children inspired her to change careers, and she decided to pursue an Early Childhood Education profession. Liz would go on to own a successful day care center, helping to shape the minds and futures of countless young people. Never idle, Liz accepted a teacher’s assistant position with the Stanly County Board of Education, Albemarle until her retirement.

In her leisure time, Liz enjoyed traveling, arts and crafts, reading, and spending time with her family. She also loved to fish and play games on her iPad. Liz lived a servant- leader life and she epitomized her dedication and commitment to helping others in the community. She enjoyed her time on the Board of Corrections and being a valued member of the Prison Ministry at ACI (Albemarle Correctional Institution).

Liz was a faithful member of New Direction Life Ministries, Norwood, North Carolina where she was a Sunday School Teacher and worked diligently in other auxiliaries of the church. Although in later years, declining health did not permit active participation, Liz remained steadfast in her faith.

Her parents, beloved daughter, LaTasha Edwards; son, Quinton Adams; brother, Johnnie Adams; and sister, Clara Middlebrooks preceded her in death.

Liz will forever be remembered by her husband, Gary Edwards, of the home; son, Trent (Yolanda) Edwards; grandchildren: Justice, Tre’ Shawn, Kortez, Trent, Courtney, Tiana, and Mya; great grandchildren; sisters-in-law; Harriette (Bishop Ronnie) Carpenter, Fleta (Melvin) Hooker, and Abbey Miller; a devoted niece, Brenda Middlebrooks; special devoted nephew, Gerald Middlebrooks; special friends; caregivers: Terris and Donna Sellers; devoted cousin, Janice Crump; niece, Cynthia Harris; a host of other relatives and friends.
