Eddie Lee Thomas, age 71, was born July 25, 1949 in Anson County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Anna Broadway and John Roy Thomas. After Eddie’s mother’s death, he was reared by his uncle and his wife, the late J.D., and Ruth McLendon Broadway. Eddie was handsome, had a beautiful smile and an endearing personality. He never said he was leaving, he never said goodbye, he was gone before we knew it, and only Our God knew why. We do know that he is resting with Our Lord and is now at peace. We will live an obedient life and will meet him again at Heaven’s Gate.
Educated in the Stanly County public schools, Eddie was an honor student. He graduated class salutatorian from Kingville High School, Class of 1967, Albemarle, North Carolina. He furthered his education at North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina, where he received his Bachelors’ Degree in Business Finance. Eddie was employed with the State of North Carolina Department of Transportation for several years. At retirement, he was employed with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Troy, North Carolina.
He and his family were devoted members of the Corner Street Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, Prophetess, Albemarle under the pastorage of Bishop Clarissa Young. In his pastime, Eddie enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. Over the years, he and his wife spent countless years fostering and caring for children in their home. His daughter, Davita often remarked that “Diddy” (this is what she called her father) and her mother loved helping children who had been displaced, needed love, and a home. Eddie even had great humility for animals. He loved his dog, Harley and wanted to make sure he was cared for.
Eddie and his wife Theresa Burns Thomas were a loving and devoted couple. They were married for over thirty-five years before her passing on August 6, 2015.
On Monday, July 27, 2020, Our Father called Eddie home. To welcome Eddie to his eternal home was his wife, Theresa; son, Darius Burns; and brother, Charles Thomas.
