Dorothy Rush Clark-Hines Obituary

Dorothy McRae Rush Clark-Hines was born July 10, 1939 in Stanly County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Sidney Thomas Sr. and Hazel H. Watkins Rush. She was reared by her great-grandmother, Ella Watkins (Mammy) whom she cherished dearly. A woman of faith and charity, she personified kindness, generosity, and love for her fellowman. These qualities of humanity were ever present to those she met.

On January 4, 2021, God’s servant, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Dorothy was called to eternal rest while a patient at Atrium Health-Stanly, Albemarle, North Carolina.

“Whatever you do, you must do it with all of your heart as working for the Lord not for human masters.”  Colossians 3:23

Dorothy was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from West Badin High School, Badin, North Carolina. Dorothy enrolled in Stanly Community College where she earned a certification in Early Childhood. Dorothy was employed with the Stanly County Board of Education as a Title II Specialist and retired in September 2010.

Dorothy and her family were life-long members of Bennettsville African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Norwood, North Carolina where she was a member of the Trustee and Usher Boards. She was a devoted and dedicated member who served the church and community faithfully. She loved her church and always supported them going above and beyond. Dorothy was also affiliated with Cedar Hill African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Ansonville, North Carolina, where she supported and showed absolute love.

Dorothy was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling, and a wonderful baker.  She was well-known for making her famous Mississippi Mud Cakes. Dorothy was family oriented. She cherished family, friends, holidays, and other celebrations. The grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her joy and delight.

God promises his children that, “Weeping may endure for night, but joys comes in the morning.”  Psalm 30:5

Together again, Dorothy has joined her husbands: Walter Lee Clark and Retired GySgt Rueben L. Hines; son, Walter B. Clark; great grandmother, Ella “Mammy” Watkins; siblings: Sidney Rush Jr., Reginald Rush, Anderson Rush, Michael Rush and Winfred R. Crump, in God’s Heavenly home.

Her smile, her grace, her love, which she shared generously with others is a flame that will forever glow brightly in the hearts of her daughter, Cassaundra Clark Spencer, Charlotte, North Carolina; son, Anthony E. Clark, Norwood; grandchildren: Aerial Shankle, Larikus Spencer, Cordero Spencer, Takira Henighan, Mya Lee, David Lee, Kevin Sturdivant, Jessica Sturdivant, and Noah Clark; thirteen great-grandchildren; sister, Creola Clark, Norwood; sisters-in-law: Daisy Rush, Leola Clark, Marie Clark, Julie Rush, Mattie Clark, Sarah Clark, and Bettye Clark Smith; brother-in-law, Karo Crump; special nieces: Pastor Faye King, Jemison, Alabama and Joann (Frederick) Little, Albemarle; special cousin, Lajaunia Shankle, Harrisburg,  North Carolina; Godson, Vernon T. Kersey, Morven North Carolina;  special friend Lacey Tucker, Norwood; other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The Family finds hope and assurance in knowing that, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”   Matthew 5:4

Today, Dorothy’s presence is no longer with us, for she now lives with the Risen Savior. Our love is Eternal and our love for Dorothy lives in our hearts forever. Tomorrow, on one of these “Great Gettin’ up Mornings” we will see her again.

“Rest in peace dear Dorothy. Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of memories. Your memory will never die.”
