Truly missed, forever in out hearts, Dorothy Lamour Reid Harris, daughter of the late Thomas Chambers and Johnsie Reid Chambers was born January 26, 1940 in Badin, North Carolina. "Dot", as she was lovingly known, was a woman of truth, love and a faithful servant of God.
Dorothy spent her early years at of life growing up between Badin, NC and Masury, OH. Family, friends and loved ones being apart of her beautiful life during this youthful journey. In 1958, she married her love, Walter C. Harris, in Ohio and from their union was welcomed Walter, Carla and Kevin.
Dorothy was educated in the Stanly County. She attended West Badin Elementary and Addison Elementary in Ohio. She also attended West Badin High School and Brookfield High School, where she graduated from in 1958 in Brookfield, OH. Dorothy went on to study at St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing in Youngstown, OH. She was also a hard and tireless worker throughout the precious life given to her. She worked at Allen's Clothing Store as well was a Public Schools Bus Driver for the Trumbull County School System in Ohio from 1976-1984. In NC, she also served as a Bus Driver for the Stanly County School System as well as the Head Custodian at North Stanly High School from 1984 until she retired in 1998. Within the house of God, she was just as dutiful. She was a member of both Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church of Badin, NC and Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church of Masury, OH. She has served as a church secretary for both churches, was a choir member of Mt. Olive and was member of the Trustee board and sang on both the D.L. Thompson Chior and Senior Choir at Mt. Zion. She was also a devoted member of The United Gospel Singers of New London, NC for over 20 years.
On August 20, 2025, Dorothy went on to eternal glory and reward. She has joined her loving husband, Walter C. Harris; her parents: Thomas Chambers and Johnsie Reid Chambers; special aunt and uncle: Bernice Edwards and Melvin Edwards; brothers: Sam Merriman, Jim Merriman and Paul Merriman; two special cousins reared as her sisters: Ida Stovall and Essie Robinson; and a loving cousin and friend: Mary E. Brown, in a place of tranquility, harmony and peace.
Her loving memories will be cherished by her sons Walter E. Harris and Kevin A. (Denita) Harris; daughter, Carla R. Ross; four grandchildren: Kevin (Mindy) Harris, Kristy (Jerome) Jones, Kellen (Lauren) Harris and Kourtney Ross; six great grandchildren: Jordon Ross, Karsyn Harris, Kennedy Ross, Elyse Harris, Mila Harris and Rome Harris; sisters: Dorothy Stevenson, Pauline Hayes and Elizabeth Cleary; sister-in-law: Maxine Whitehead; God-sisters: Lucille Little and Louis Westbrook; special cousins: Burnetta Maske, John Edwards and Claudine Reed; a host of other relatives and friends.
