Our beloved, Dorothy Peoples Davis, age 76, transitioned to eternal rest, Sunday, October 18, 2020. Dorothy was born November 18, 1943 in Stanly County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Johnnie and Juanita Rush Peoples. Although no longer with us, Dorothy will forever be remembered for her warmth, loving and charitable spirit. Our loss is Heaven’s gain. We are grateful for the many years we were blessed and able to share her wonderful life.
Dorothy was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from West Badin High School, Badin, North Carolina. She was office manager with the City of Albemarle Public Housing Authority, Albemarle, North Carolina before retiring after many years of exemplary service.
A life-long member of Shiloh Baptist Church, New London, North Carolina, Dorothy was a dedicated member until health challenges prevented her active participation. She was a former member of the Adult Choir and Usher Board. In her leisure, she enjoyed playing board games (especially Scrabble), solving crossword puzzles, traveling to the beach, and fishing excursions. She was an avid reader and always enjoyed discussions on current events. Dorothy’s family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed family time and family celebrations.
She has fought the fight, finished her course, and now rests with Our Father and her family who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents, those family members are her husband, Pernel Henry Davis; brothers: Johnnie “Louis” Peoples and Henry “Pee Wee” Rush; special cousins who were reared as siblings: Vanessa Worthington and Donald Williams.
Our family will cherish Dorothy’s memory, and will hold dear in our hearts her kindness and generosity. She is survived by her daughter, Tamra (William) Jenkins, Newton, North Carolina; her son, Derrick William (Lashell) Davis, Ft. Eustis, Virginia; grandchildren: Lashay, Asia, William “Bud”, Derrick Jr. “DJ”, Yolanda, Timothy and Tiffany; nine great grandchildren; sister, Marie (Bobby) McDonald, New London; brothers: Calvin (Mary) Peoples, Charles (Katherine) Peoples, both of Badin, Roger (Minister Argene) Peoples, Albemarle and Reverend David (Dianne) Wooley, Charlotte, North Carolina; cousins who were reared as siblings: Woody, Ronnie, Lonnie, Linda and Patricia; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
“Peaceful sleep dear Dorothy, may flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest”.
