Delois Watkins

In sweet peace, Delois Gramling Watkins, entered eternal rest, Sunday, January 16, 2022, at her daughter’s residence in Norwood, North Carolina. She was born October 4, 1948, in Stanly County, North Carolina; and was the daughter of the late Lester Sr. and Willis Reed Gramling. Delois was an easy going, generous and kind person who always brightened our days. She will be missed tremendously, but we are comforted in knowing that she is resting in the Arms of Our Lord and Savior.

Delois was educated in the Stanly County public schools and was an honor graduate in the class of 1966 from West Badin High School, Badin, North Carolina. In high school, she was a member of the Girls Varsity Basketball team. She was an outstanding player and was voted ‘most athletic’. Prior to retirement, she was employed with Collins and Aikman Textile Company, Albemarle, North Carolina.

A believer, Delois was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church, New London, North Carolina. Health challenges did not permit her participation in later years. She enjoyed sewing and writing poetry, a talent passed on to her granddaughter. However, her most cherished pastime was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, who were the ‘apples of her eye’.

When Delois was called to her heavenly home, there to welcome her were her parents; her husband, Leroy Watkins; grandson, Daylan Watkins; and brothers: Lester Gramling Jr. and Bobby Joe Gramling.

The sun has set on the life of our beloved, Delois, but her memory will forever remain in the hearts of her daughters: Renea (Barry) Peguese, Lola (Jimmy) Green, Chante (Bryant) Harris, and Tiffany “Tip” Davis; son, James “Bug” Watkins (Mandy Anderson); grandchildren: Meagan (Joe) Price, Brian Williams Jr.(Unique Wilson),   Antonio Williams, Chelsey Williams, Soraya Peguese, Sanaiya Peguese, Latasha Watts, Shakeeka (Dwayne)Brooks, Katelin Rush, James Rush Jr., Kayla Deeter, TyRihanna Watkins, DaQuan Watkins, Bryant Harris Jr., and Serenity Harris; great grandchildren: Kamden Williams, Aliana Williams, Paris Williams, Daylan Williams, Gage Williams, and Braylen Peoples; sisters: Lola (Larry) Pemberton, Carrie Gramling, Barbara Gramling, and  Pauline (Gary) McCorkle; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
