Deacon Donnie Leon Thomas, affectionately called "Duck", was born to the late Deacon Roy Lee and Helen Griffin Thomas on July 30, 1952. He entered into eternal rest on August 12, 2021 at Carolinas Medical Center-Stanly.
"Duck" was educated in Stanly County Public Schools and graduated from West Stanly High School Class of 1970. He was employed with the North Carolina Department of Transportation for many years until his retirement.
He was a very kind person who loved people. "Duck" often enjoyed yard work and helping his neighbors by mowing their lawns.
Deacon Thomas was a life-long member of Saint Matthews United Church of God, Oakboro, North Carolina. He was a member Deacon Board and Usher Board. He was a Sunday School teacher and an active member of the Men’s department. "Duck" was also a member of Oakboro Lodge #817, PHA; and former member of Royal Arch Chapter #52, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
"Duck" was preceded in death by his parents, Roy Lee and Helen Thomas; siblings: Rosalyn Thomas Burns, Willie Hodges Thomas, and Leonard Lee Thomas.
He is survived by his nieces: Ameshia Smith (Charles), Kia Warren (Norman), Lashunda Hamilton (Tremaine); nephews, Mario Thomas (Rachel) and Brad Jackson; a host of other family and friends.
