Darryl Virgil Currie Sr., age 62, entered Heaven’s Gate, Wednesday, March 16, 2022, while a patient at Atrium Health-Stanly, Albemarle, North Carolina. Darryl was born July 12, 1959, in Stanly County, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Edward and Maxine Harris Currie. Darryl has joined his parents, other family, and friends in a place where the woes of the world are no more. He is no longer in our presence, but the influence of his life upon others is a flame that will forever burn brightly.
He was educated in the Stanly County public schools and a 1979 graduate of Albemarle Senior High School, Albemarle. Darryl was a man of faith, and his chosen profession was in the field of Divinity. He was a minister for many years.
In his leisure, Darryl enjoyed praising the Lord and reading his Bible. He was an avid sports fan serving as a little league and AAU basketball coach. He was a Die-Hard Cowboys and Carolina Tarheels fan. Most of all he loved family. His children were his pride and joy. Darryl was a man of his word and he had a great sense of humor. He also loved watching cartoons; and his favorite television shows were: The Three Stooges and Peanuts.
Darryl’s courage, his smile, his valiant and brave spirit will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Tamara (JT) Thomas; son, Darryl Currie Jr.; grandchildren: Jerry Thomas III, Miles Thomas, Shaniya Lindsey, Elizabeth Thomas and Kyla Currie; brothers: Edmond A. (Eva) Currie, Erwin “Kim” Currie, Chris C. Currie, Lester E. (Tabitha) Currie, Alvin A. (Crissy) Currie and Brian Currie; sisters: Lisa (Clarence) Rickett and Kendra Currie Bannerman; former wife and friend, Ruth Dorman; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
