Missionary Daisy Lee Smith, age 74, entered life on June 9, 1947 in Stanly County, North Carolina. She was the second child of J.B. Kirkley and Rosa Ann Smith. She departed this life to eternal rest, July 30,2021 while a patient at Forrest Oakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Albemarle, North Carolina. At age six, Daisy along with her oldest brother, Tommy, twin brother and sister: Louis and Louise were reared by their grandmother, Callie Winfield Smith Watkins, after the sudden death of their mother.
Daisy attended Norwood Elementary School and graduated from Kingville High School in 1964 at the age of sixteen. She attended Livingstone College, Salisbury, North Carolina. After her children were born, she relocated to Albemarle, North Carolina. Daisy was employed in the textile industry. She received her Early Childhood Education certification from Stanly Community College, Albemarle; and her cosmetology certification from Butler Beauty School.
Daisy loved flowers and talked to her flowers and plants. She felt that this was therapeutic and helped them to grow. She enjoyed assembling puzzles on her drafting board. Most of all, Daisy loved people. She went out of her way to make others feel comfortable and readily shared the little she possessed to care for neighbors in the community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother, and siblings: Tommy Smith, Louis Smith and Louise Smith.
Her memory will forever be cherished by her stepmother, Mary Kirkley; brother, Richard E. Kirkley; sister, Tammy Kirkley; sons: Cory L. Smith, Roy Dean Smith, and Timothy D. (Melissa) Smith; grandsons: Rodrean D. Smith and Aaron Wallace; uncle, Earl Smith; a host of cousins and friends.
