Carl Lacy Haywood, age 73, transitioned to eternal rest, Wednesday, November 30,2022, while a patient at Atrium Health-Stanly, Albemarle, North Carolina. Born February 3, 1949, in Montgomery County, North Carolina, Carl was the son of the late Robert and Otelia Shipp Haywood. He will be remembered for his quiet demeanor and willingness to lend a helping hand to his fellowman. May God hold him in the palm of His hand.
He received his formal education from the Montgomery County public schools and attended Peabody High School, Troy, North Carolina. Carl was musically inclined. During his high school years, he was in the marching band and was an outstanding drummer. He served as the church’s musician and played the guitar. Prior to retirement Carl was employed in the textile industry for many years.
A man of faith, Carl was a member of Sanctuary Christian Outreach Ministries, Albemarle, North Carolina. He was a member of the Deacon and Missionary Boards and Church Music Staff. He was also a member of the Singing Stars Group. Never idle, Carl enjoyed lawn and auto maintenance. He was family oriented and especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Carl has been called to rest and has joined his son, Terrence Haywood; his parents; Haywood brothers: Robert, Bob, and Jimmy; and sister, Lena Haywood in a place of beauty and tranquility.
Those who survive Carl are his wife, Georgia Haywood; daughter, Esonia Merriman; Merriman grandchildren: Adiel, Neriah, Steven Jr., and Gylah; siblings: Michael (Barbara) Scarborough, Patricia (Ernest) Washington, and Suzie B. Haywood; special family friends: Geraldine Little family and Mitchell and Rosemary Collins family; a host of other relatives and friends.
