Bobbie Lee Davis Rivers was born on December 23, 1927, in Anson County, NC to Mr. George Threadgill and Ms. Hazel Davis Gaddy. After 98 years of earthly labor, she peacefully transitioned to her heavenly reward on the afternoon of December 31, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Mrs. Rivers was educated at the Kimberly Park School in Winston Salem, NC. She began her career working for Boone Laundry and Dun-Rite Cleaners before transitioning into Environmental Services work with the Albemarle City School System. Bobbie retired from Albemarle City Schools after a 35-year career.
After accepting Christ at an early age, she became a faithful member of the Colston Street Church of God in Albemarle until her death. Affectionately known as “Mother Rivers”, she was a valiant servant in the church. Over the years, Bobbie could be found serving as an Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Children’s Choir director and President of the Women’s Ministry. During many devotional services, Mother Rivers could be counted on to rise and lead her favorite song, “I Made a Vow to Lord, and I Won’t Take It Back.”
When not working in her church, Bobbie could be found spending time with her family, enjoying word search puzzles or watching her favorite soap operas and television shows. She took great joy in watching In the Heat of the Night, General Hospital and Matt Dillon on Gunsmoke. Her proudest moment came on July 31, 1950, when she married the love of her life, Mr. George W. Rivers, Sr. To this union, 9 children were born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 61 years, Mr. George W. Rivers, Sr. and two daughters: Vergie Rivers Sellars and Robin Little.
Left to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy are seven children; Shirley Gould, Albemarle, NC, James (Linda) Davis, Charlotte, NC, Aquadella Rivers, Winston-Salem, NC, Barbara Rivers, Winston-Salem, NC, Carl Rivers, Albemarle, NC, David Rivers, Albemarle, NC and George (Marie) Rivers, Jr., Albemarle, NC; a granddaughter, Lolita Rivers, Mebane, NC, whom she reared; fifteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; twelve great-great-grandchildren; and a host of beloved cousins, extended family and cherished friends - each of whom she loved deeply and held close to her heart.
