Artis Phillip Brown

June 28, 1944 ~ January 27, 2021 (age 76)

Our love is forever with our beloved, Artis Phillip Brown, who was welcomed into God’s Kingdom, Wednesday, January 27, 2021 while a patient at Atrium Health-Stanly, Albemarle, North Carolina. Artis was born June 28, 1944 in Stanly County, North Carolina to the parentage of Arthur and Jamie Owens Brown. He was a quiet, easy going gentleman that had an enormous compassion for others. Artis touched all of us with love and kindness. We have been truly blessed to have shared his life for so many years. Our loss is heaven’s gain. His memory will always remain precious in our hearts.

Artis was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from the historic Kingville High School, Albemarle, North Carolina. He was the senior class president. Upon graduation, he enlisted and honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. After many years of dedicated service, Artis retired from Alcoa Aluminum Works, Badin, North Carolina, where he was a member of Alcoa’s renowned Twenty-five Year Club. Never idle, Artis was also employed and retired from Culp Lumber, New London.

For many years, Artis and his family have been faithful members of First Baptist Church, New London, North Carolina.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His favorite hobbies were, singing and watching westerns every night.  He was an avid Carolina Tar Heels and Carolina Panther fan. His favorite NBA team was the Los Angeles Lakers and favorite Major League Baseball team was the Los Angeles Dodgers.

All is quiet, the sun has set. Artis has joined his parents and his brothers: Billy, Harold, and Ernest Brown, who preceded him in death, in a place of tranquility and peace.

Artis and Margretta Davis Brown were married on Artis’ birthdate, June 28, 1970.  They were a loving couple who celebrated over fifty years of marriage.

Our memories of his life, love, and legacy will be remembered and treasured by his devoted wife, Margretta D. Brown, New London; sons: Reverend Rodvegas (Tammy) Ingram, Jamestown, North Carolina, Reggie (Tammi) Brown, Charlotte, North Carolina, Eric Brown, New London, Marlin (Lakesha) Brown and Ortez (Shaundra) Brown, both of Concord, North Carolina; daughter, Sophia (Anthony) Perry, Durham, North Carolina; seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; sisters: Gracie Coble, New London and Christine Conner, Mooresville, North Carolina; special cousin, James “JB” Owens, New London; a host of other relatives and friends.

“Good night dear Artis, may flights of Angels sing thee to thou rest.”
