The music has stopped, the sun has set. Our dearly beloved, Andrew Michael Gomes, Jr. began his earthly journey, November 22, 1982 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He was the son of, Grace Long and Andrew Michael Gomes, Sr., who preceded him in death. Andrew was the eldest of six boys. They loved each other dearly; and as youngsters they enjoyed playing games and getting into friendly mischief. Andrew was a kind, friendly person. He enjoyed repairing electronics; and could maintain most mechanical devices.
He attended Putnam High School, Springfield. Andrew attended Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, Oakboro, North Carolina with his Aunt Diana, and Uncle Lee Huntley. He lived thirty-eight short years, but his memories are timeless, eternal, and will forever be held dear to our hearts. Andrew finished his course in this life, February 12, 2021, and has made it to his Eternal home where there is no sadness and problems of the world.
He will be loved and never forgotten by his children: Dakota, Springfield, Massachusetts, Timothy, Jillian, Kendall, and Aryana, all of Charlotte, North Carolina; brothers: Zachary, Jacob, Darius, Kamaii, and Joshua, all of Springfield; grandmother, Janet (Arnold) Davidson, Springfield; aunts: Diana (Lee) Huntley, Oakboro, Mozetta (Reverend Lynn) Mitchell, Grand Rapids, Michigan, Peggy Baldwin, Cantonsville, Maryland, and Berleese (Mahlon) Beal, Springfield; uncles: William Long, Roger Gomes and Anthony Gomes, all of Springfield, Dale Gomes, Clover, South Carolina and James Gomes, Rock Hill, South Carolina; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and best friend, Jamal Williams, Springfield. As we mourn the loss of Andrew, we will try to reflect on the words of Iyanla Vanzant, “His leaving was not about us, it was about him.”
“Goodbyes hurt when the story is not finished, and the book has been closed.” -Jnd
