During her blessed 95 years on earth; Mrs. Alma McMillan Nabinett, was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to so many. She departed her earthly home on Monday, October 13, 2025 at home. Alma was born on September 19, 1930 in Sanford, NC to the late Dave and Ella McMillan.
Alma attended West Badin High School in Badin, NC. She was a dedicated domestic and mill worker. Alma was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where she worked in the kitchen and did missionary work. She dedicated her life to her family and was the heart of our family, finding her joy in the simple things. She could often be found tending to her flowers or in her garden. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith and strength through all the adversity that she faced. She taught us that our strength comes from the Lord.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband: Arthur “June” Nabinett Jr.; sons: Samuel, Jerome, and Alfonza Nabinett; brothers: David McMillan Jr and Mac Carson McMillan; sisters: Sallie Ann McMillan and Shady Mae Walker; brother-in-laws: Lacail Barnett, Melvin Walker, Lincoln Duncan, and Charlie Williams; sister-in-laws: Mildred Duncan and Annie B Williams; grandchildren: James (Jimmy) Greene Jr., Jerome (Joe) Nabinett Jr., Davida Greene, and James (Lil’ James) Nabinett Jr.; and one great grandchild: Omar Greene.
“Gone from among us, but forever in our hearts. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.” She will be lovingly remembered by: her 3 daughters: Betty (Roy) Owens and Mildred *Bronetta* (James) Greene of New London, NC and Diane Williams of Oceanside, CA; 3 sons: Daryl (Mary) Nabinett of Charlotte, NC, James Nabinett and Mark (Theresa) Nabinett of New London, NC; 2 daughter-in-laws: Rose (Alfonza) Nabinett of Gastonia, NC and Sherry (Jerome) Nabinett of Charlotte, NC; 18 grandchildren, 56 great grandchildren, and 19 great great grandchildren of NC and CA; 2 sisters: Thelma Barnett and Rosetta McMillan of New London, NC; sister-in-laws: Bertha McMillan and Sarah McCall of New London, NC, and Edna McMillan of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law: Samuel Nabinett of Bronx, NY; brother and sister-in-laws: Mary Ruth (Sylvester) Jones of Accokeek, MD, Faye (James) Partlow of Gastonia, NC, Jencie (Doug) Swaringen and Bermie (Erica) of New London, NC along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
