Alfred L. Pemberton was born in Montgomery County, NC on July 04, 1944 to the late Luther and Luevenure Ewing Pemberton. He answered his call and went home to be with the Lord on September 14, 2018. Alfred cherished his family and often encouraged young people to continue educating themselves to be all that they could be. He supported his wife giving of her time, talent and treasures to the High Community Center of Mt. Gilead, NC.
At an early age, Alfred began his Christian journey at Mount Zion AME Zion Church and later joined Providence Baptist Church in Mt. Gilead, NC. He was a faithful member and devoted his time as a Sunday School Teacher and Senior Deacon until his journey led him home.
Alfred attended Montgomery County Public Schools and graduated from Peabody High School. He also attended North Carolina Central University. Alfred was employed with the NC Department of Correction for 35 years until he retired.
On July 4, 1964 he married the love of his life, Mary Helen Miller. They celebrated 54 years of marriage on July 6, 2018.
Alfred was predeceased by five brothers: Willie, Rudolph, Claude, Melvin, and Irvin.
Alfred leaves to honor and remember him; his wife, Mary Pemberton, two sons; Bruce Pemberton (Kimberly) of Greensboro and Alfred Pemberton (Ingreg) of Texas; one daughter, Sonya Pemberton Shaw of Mt. Gilead; eight grandchildren: Shaketia Haywood, Lorenzo Martel Shaw, Rashad Shaw, Brandon Shaw, Kenneth Deonte’ Pemberton, Brianna Pemberton, Alneisha Pemberton, Alfred Pemberton, III; one great granddaughter, Leiana Pemberton; special niece, Sherry Bowden (Darren) of Charlotte; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
