Alester Sturdivant, age 81, entered eternal rest, Sunday, March 10, 2024, in Bluefield, West Virginia. He was born January 3, 1943, in Stanly County, North Carolina; and was the son of the late Lee and Ollie Mae Sturdivant. Alester will be remembered for his out- going personality, life well-lived, and adventurous demeanor. We are comforted in knowing that Alester is at rest and is soaring with the Angels.
He was educated in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from thehistoric West Badin High School, Badin, North Carolina. Alester was an Army veteran who served honorably in the Vietnam Conflict. Prior to retirement he was Parking Lot Supervisor with the Atlantic City New Jersey Convention Center.
Never idle, always engaging, Alester was the first African American to be inducted into Shriners International, New Jersey. He was a member of Prince Hall Masons and attained the esteemed level of 33rd Degree. In his leisure time, he was an avid sports enthusiast and was a staunch New York Yankees fan.
Preceded in death by his parents; son, Mitchell Dean Richardson and brother Leroy Sturdivant.
Alester is survived by his wife, Mary Sturdivant; children; grandchildren; siblings: Clara Tynes, Roosevelt Sturdivant, Quincel Sturdivant, Lenora Sturdivant, Vincent Sturdivant, Johnny Sturdivant and Willie Sturdivant; cousins: Joseph Flowers and Teddy Flowers.
