Addie was one of the ‘greatest of all time’ children of the late Leroy James and Mattie Baldwin Owens, born October 23, 1933 in Stanly County, North Carolina. She departed this life Thursday, March 12, 2020 while a patient at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Albemarle, North Carolina. She has finished her course and entered Heaven’s Gate. We give honor and glory to Our Lord and Savior for allowing us the privilege to share a beautiful life for so many years.
She received her education in the Stanly County public schools and graduated from Kingville High School, Albemarle. Addie attended Winston-Salem State University where she pursued a career in education. Never idle she was employed with Richfield Manufacturing Company, Richfield, North Carolina and United Technology, New Haven, Connecticut. One of Addie’s greatest qualities was as an excellent housewife, who loved and supported her family unconditionally.
A Believer, Addie was a member of Parkers Grove Baptist Church, New London where she was Mother of the Church and a member of the Deaconess Board. She was also affiliated with New Parkers Grove Baptist Church, Wadesboro, North Carolina. There she was overseer of the Kitchen committee and member of the Deaconess Board.
Addie was an excellent cook and was well known for her scrumptious chicken-n-dumplings and apple jacks. One could always enjoy a great meal at Addie’s home. In her leisure, she enjoyed playing cards, fishing, traveling, spending time with her high school classmates, solving crossword puzzles and watching her favorite game show, Family Feud.
She has joined her parents and siblings: Reverend Harry lee Owens, James Arthur Owens, John Frank Owens, Samuel Owens, Sallie Lorin Griffin, Minister Evelyn Troutman and Gaynell Slater in a place we have been told is perfect in every way.
Those special memories of Addie will always bring a smile to her son who she reared and adored, Stanley (Farrah)Owens, Albemarle; brothers: Roy (Betty) Owens, New London and Gary (Joann) Owens, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; sister, Reverend Vanessa (Kenneth ) Chambers, New London; an adored cousin, Delsie Allen, Albemarle; high school friend, Mabel Christian, New London; special nieces:, Sanai, Mary Ann and Diana Faye; so many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to name.
Addie will forever remain in our hearts until we meet again!
