Theodore Garland Booker

December 1, 1946 ~ December 27, 2017 (age 71) 71 Years Old

THEODORE GARLAND BOOKER affectionately known as “Ted” departed his earthly life Wednesday, December 27, 2017 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born October 31, 1946 in Salisbury, Rowan County, North Carolina, he was the son of the late John L. and Addie B. McKinney Booker. We give thanks to Our Lord and Savior for allowing us to share his life. Words cannot begin to express our profound sadness as we say good-bye to a wonderful life well lived.

His early education was received in the Rowan County public school system and was a 1965 graduate of Forest Hills High School, Queens, New York. He furthered his education at Shaw University, Raleigh, North Carolina where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. A retired Major from the United States Air Force, Ted served his country honorably in the Vietnam Conflict, the Panama Invasion, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm. He also served four overseas tours of duty. After his military retirement, he was employed as a manager with McDonalds; and he later was employed and retired from the State of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, where he was a training manager with Child Services.

Ted and his wife, Gwen, were members of the Protestant faith and they were affiliated with Tinker Chapel, Oklahoma City.

A great humanitarian and philanthropist, Ted supported local charities which included the Audubon Society, AIDS Awareness, Wounded Warriors, and The Red Cross. In his leisure, he enjoyed fishing, traveling, and known to his family and friends to be technologically savvy. Other interests involved going to the theater and listening to jazz music. He was a sport enthusiast and an avid Oklahoma University football and women’s basketball fan.

Ted and Gwendolyn Raye Spencer Booker celebrated forty-eight years of marital bliss in August 2017. They were best friends and loving parents to their children: Kevin and Keia.

A devoted husband, father, uncle, cousin, and friend, Ted’s legacy and memory will remain in our hearts. He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Raye Booker, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; son, Theodore Kevin Booker, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Keia Danielle Booker, Portland, Oregon; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends.
