Mrs. Ruby Sturdivant Kendall was born in Anson County, North Carolina to the late John W. Sturdivant and the late Julia Harris Sturdivant on December 24, 1920. She passed away peacefully at Trinity Glen Rehabilitation and Nursing Care in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on December 25, 2019.
She was educated in the Anson County Public Schools. Mrs. Kendall moved to Albemarle, North Carolina after her marriage and lived there until she came to Winston-Salem four years ago to be near her daughter. She was a resident of Somerset Court at University Place until her recent illness.
Mrs. Kendall was a faithful member of Union Chapel AME Zion Church in Albemarle. She was member of the Senior Choir, Missionary Society, Lay Council, Christian Education Board, and Sunday School. Mrs. Kendall was very involved with the PTA and other activities when her children were at Kingville High School. She was also a member and Past Worthy Matron of Ivey Chapter #126 OES, and a retiree of Federal Pacific Electric Company.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Leon Kendall Sr.; her son, Gary L. Kendall; siblings: Luther, Sarah, Leroy, Willie Clyde, and Hubert Sturdivant and Flonnie Ponds.
Mrs. Kendall leaves to cherish her memory a devoted daughter, Dollye Kendall Mack, Winston-Salem; two sons: James L. Kendall, Jr. (Susan), Marietta, Georgia and Antonio J. Kendall (Cynthia), Charlotte, North Carolina; four grandsons: Jamall A. Mack (April), Huntersville, North Carolina, CDR Jiwan A. Mack, USN (Mya), Jacksonville, Florida, Gariel Kendall, Lexington, North Carolina, and Gerrod Kendall, Durham, North Carolina; granddaughter, Bethany Kendall, Lexington, North Carolina; sister, Myrtle Kelly, Baltimore, Maryland; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
