Pauline Bennett Obituary

Receiving strength and comfort from these words, we, the family of Mrs. Pauline Baucum Bennett, bow in humble submission to God’s will to call our loved one to rest on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, in Willingboro, New Jersey.

Born September 2, 1918 in Gulledge Township, Anson County, North Carolina, Pauline was the daughter of John P. and Georgianna Bennett Baucum.  She graduated from the Faison School in Wadesboro, North Carolina but continued her education in later years by graduating from Albemarle Senior High School (which was a 12 year program) in 1967.  Mrs. Bennett also received professional training in nursing.

Her later years found her serving as a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Burlington, New Jersey.  While there she served as a Deaconess, a member of the Compassion Ministry and as an inspiration to the entire congregation.

She confessed her love and desire to follow Christ early in life.  She was a member of West Deep Creek Baptist Church in Anson County, North Carolina.  As a youth and young adult, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary, member of the choir, and as an usher.  After marriage, she moved to Badin, North Carolina and joined Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, New London, North Carolina, to be with her family and continue her service for Christ.

While at Cedar Grove for more than 60 years, Mrs. Bennett served in numerous capacities.  Some of her services included: Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, Church Clerk, Delegate to General, Annual, and District Conferences, Missionary, Stewardess Board Chairman, Youth Advisor, Choir member, and Kitchen Committee Chairperson, to name a few.

On the Concord District of the AME Zion Church, Mrs. Bennett served as Secretary to the Presiding Elder and District Secretary for many years.  She passed her love for the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church to her children through demonstrated services.

Sister Pauline Bennett, as she was fondly called in the Order of Eastern Star, was a member of Badin Chapter #457 for over 60 years.  She served in many capacities in the Chapter and was a very dedicated and devoted Sister, giving motherly advice and wisdom when needed.  She was also a member of the Senior Delights Club for the Grand Chapter of North Carolina and earned her badge of honor when she reached the age of 80, therefore being recognized as a member for 19 years.  Mrs. Bennett was also a member of the West Badin Senior Citizen’s Club and served as Treasurer for many years.

Mrs. Bennett was united in Holy Matrimony to Clyde Maeso Bennett on May 30, 1946, with whom she shared 60 years of unity and happiness as they reared their family in love and reverence of God.  He preceded her in death in 2007.  Others preceding her in death were two daughters: Pearl Bennett Slater and Nancy Bennett Davis, nine brothers and sisters, three grandchildren: Jarvis Laron Bennett, Bobby Erwin Barnes, Jr., and Sean Marcus Davis.

Left in the sunshine of life to cherish her memory are: her final caregiver and daughter, Evangeline Bennett Lilly of the home, Willingboro, NJ; daughters: Elizabeth Jones Walton and Betty Bennett (Herold) Evans, both of Badin, NC, C. Maxine Bennett Foster, Colfax, NC, Doris Bennett Stanback, Greensboro, NC, Shirley Jones (James) Byard, Clinton, Md., and Evelyn Bennett (Bobby) Barnes, Silver Springs, Md.; one Godson, James V. (Delois P.) Monroe of Lauginburg, NC; one Goddaughter, Katherine J. (Charles) Peoples; one sister-in-law, Corada Baucum, Maryland; 14 Grandchildren; 25 Great-Grandchildren;  14 Great-Great-Grandchildren;  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

We would request that donations be made in her memory to Samaritan Hospice, 5 Eve Drive, Suite 300, Marlton, NJ 08053; Cedar Grove AME Zion Church, P.O. Box 148, New London, NC 28127, or Tabernacle Baptist Church, 150 E. Second Street, Burlington, NJ 08016.
