On Thursday, April 25, 2019, Mary Alice Tyson Kendall, quietly left on her well- planned journey to her new home in glory. She was welcomed by Jesus and her family and friends who were awaiting her arrival. In sweet peace, she departed this life of eighty-five years at Atrium Healthcare Anson, Wadesboro, North Carolina.
Born August 17, 1933 in Anson County, North Carolina, Mary was the daughter of the late Martin Tyson Jr. and Julia Little Tyson. She received her formal education from the Anson County School System, Anson County, North Carolina. After many years of employment, Mary retired from American Lockstitch, Norwood, North Carolina.
She was a faithful member of Rose of Sharon Friendship Church of God, where she was Mother of the Church. Mary was a former Deaconess, a Sunday School teacher, and enjoyed traveling with the Rose of Sharon Choir before her health declined.
Mary was joined in Holy Matrimony August 2, 1952 to the late Willie H. Kendall, who preceded her in death June 25, 2011. She was also preceded in death by two sisters: Mamie T. Lindsey and Lula M. Little.
Left to treasure her memory are her children: three sons: Willie D. Kendall, Monroe, North Carolina, Gregory O. Kendall, of the home, and Ricky M. Kendall, Pageland, South Carolina; a daughter, Dorris (Nathaniel) Kendall-Rorie, Wadesboro, North Carolina; ten grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters: Julia T. Smith, Baltimore, Maryland, Frances R. Wade, Morven, North Carolina, and Mattie T. Clark, Ansonville, North Carolina; four sisters-in-law: Gloria Ann Tillman and Susie Kendall, both of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Charlena Walker, New Haven, Connecticut, and Blanche Yelverton, Oxen Hill, Maryland; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mary set an example of loyalty and devotion to family and friends; these qualities will forever be embedded in our hearts and in the way we live.
