Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister and Friend, Ms. Lula Allen Poston, entered Eternal rest, Saturday, August 4, 2018 at her residence surrounded by loving family. We give honor and glory to Our Lord and Savior for allowing us to share so many years with Our Dear Lula.
Born June 24, 1933 in Albemarle, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Ben and Minnie Thomas Allen. Lula received her formal education in the public schools of Stanly County, North Carolina and graduated from the historic Kingville High School, Albemarle. She furthered her education at Beth Israel College, New York, New York where she studied in the field of phlebotomy. After she completed her credentials, she was employed with the Beth Israel Medical Center for over 30 years before retiring in 2000.
Lula’s spiritual journey began at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Albemarle; and she later joined St. Delight Church, Albemarle. While residing in New York, she was affiliated with St. Paul’s Baptist Church, Brooklyn, New York. After retirement, she returned to North Carolina where she continued her membership at St. Delight Church. There she was a member of the Gospel Choir. Lula was fun loving and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Traveling and shopping were a source of great enjoyment. She loved decorating her home and buying beautiful clothes. She was quite the fashionista.
She was married to Shelley Poston who preceded her in death; and later married Samuel King.
Family members who preceded her in death are: her husband, parents, sons: William H. Allen and Benjamin Poston; grandson, Tony Poston, Jr.; brothers: John Lee Allen, Daniel L. Allen and Joseph F. Allen; and sister, Mary E. Dean.
Loving and fond memories of Lula will be cherished by her sons: Tony (Patricia) Poston, Miami, Florida and Joseph (Samantha) Poston, Sr., St. Thomas, Virgin Islands & Georgia; daughters: Debbie (Ernest) Myles, High Point, North Carolina and Yvonne Poston (Wayne) Winston-Salem, North Carolina; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret (William) Cato, Albemarle; daughter-in-law, Crystal Poston, Brooklyn, New York; sister-in-law, Delsia M. Allen, Albemarle; special nieces: Antonia B. Allen and Wanda Allen; a host of nieces,nephews,other relatives and friends.
