“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
II Timothy 4:7
Heaven’s gate opened for Lelia M.Owens, Monday, July 30, 2018 while a patient at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center, Albemarle, North Carolina. Born July 7, 1935 in Stanly County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Julia Mae Owens Nicholson. We give thanks to Our Almighty for blessing her with 83 years of life and allowing her family to share so many wonderful years.
She received her formal education in the Stanly County public schools. At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined First Baptist Church, New London, North Carolina. She was a dedicated member of the Usher Board until declining health did not permit her participation. Lelia was the community mother who enjoyed baby-sitting for family and friends. She was an excellent cook and baking was her specialty. One could say that Lelia was a renaissance woman for she was uniquely talented and could master most any craft.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Clark and her brothers: Marshall Owens, Lee Baldwin, William Owens and Robert Owens.
There will never be another who can replace cherished and fond memories of our dear Lelia. Survivors are: a son, Jeremiah Owens (Gail), Charlotte, North Carolina; four grandchildren; sisters: Ellen Travick, New Candor, New Jersey and Teresa (Sammie) Miller, Albemarle, North Carolina; a very special nephew, James “J. B.” Owens, New London, North Carolina; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
“Goodnight sweet Lelia, may flights of Angels sing thee to thy rest.”
