Our beloved Katie Lee Green transitioned to her Heavenly Home Friday, January 17, 2020 at her residence in Albemarle, North Carolina surrounded by her loving family. Katie was born March 14, 1939 in Stanly County, North Carolina and was the daughter of the late Ruben Carl and Ether Mae “Green” Green. She was hard working and enjoyed a beautiful life. Katie was kind and compassionate and her memory will forever remain in the hearts of family and friends.
Her formal education was received in the Montgomery County public schools. She graduated from the historic Peabody High School, Troy, North Carolina in the Class of 1956. She was employed with Wiscasset Manufacturing Company and retired after many years of dedicated service.
Katie’s spiritual journey began at Mt. Zion African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Mt. Gilead, North Carolina. She loved her church and served faithfully until declining health prevented her attendance. She was a former member of the Senior Choir, former Sunday School teacher and participated in other church auxiliaries. In high school she was a member of the Girls’ Varsity Basketball team and dearly enjoyed watching the sport. Other sources of enjoyment included: playing the clarinet, gardening, baking pies and cakes. She also loved her favorite television shows: Murder She Wrote, Matlock and Perry Mason.
Family members who preceded her in death in addition to her parents are, sisters: Lena Mae Watkins, Bessie Ewing and great grandchild, Jaydence Hamilton.
Memories of Katie will be cherished by her daughters: Cynthia Mason, Albemarle, North Carolina and Joann Green, Charlotte, North Carolina; son, Dennis (Mia) Green, Albemarle, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; sisters: Georgette Lilly, Mt. Gilead, Blanche Rush, Albemarle and Viola McAuley, Mt. Gilead; brother, Robert L. Green, Albemarle. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
