“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die”, thusly our beloved Jolene Audrey Ann Washington Sheppard finished her course in life and entered Eternal rest Saturday, December 7, 2019. She was born February 23, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Helene Brown Washington.
Jolene received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of California at Davis. She was a retired educator who taught kindergarten. She retired from Memorial Day School, Savannah, Georgia after many years of dedicated service.
A believer, Jolene was a devoted member of Overflowing Faith Church, Savannah, Georgia. She had a kind, generous and loving heart and was committed to helping others achieve a better life for themselves. Jolene spread love and kindness in her everyday interactions with people. In her leisure, she volunteered at the local food bank for several years and Savannah Intercity Night Shelter.
In addition to her parents, Jolene’s husband, Ernest Sheppard and siblings: Alvin M. Washington, Kenneth L. Washington, and Loretha Washington Owens Gertrude preceded her in death.
Jolene is survived by her sons: Mike Sheppard, San Diego, California, Keith Sheppard, Atlanta, Georgia and Stephen Sheppard, Lansing, Michigan; daughter, Karen Sheppard Brown, Charlotte, North Carolina; five grandchildren: Michael David Sheppard, Justin Sheppard, Alex Sheppard Sr., Jacob Sheppard, and Madeline Sheppard; great grandson, Alex Sheppard Jr.; sister, Reverend Althea Harris, Richfield, North Carolina; aunt, Ora Lee Brown Harris, Bronx, New York; long time family friend, Albert Devoe; and a host of other relatives and friends. She will forever be in our hearts and dearly missed.
